Manchester United fans split on the ideal Jadon Sancho transfer alternative

Manchester United supporters can't decide who would be the best alternative if Jadon Sancho can't be signed this summer.

Donny van de Beek remains the only new arrival at United so far in the window and there are only two weeks to go before it closes on October 5.

Following United's humiliating start to the Premier League with a 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace, MEN Sport understands that United have stepped up plans to strengthen their defence, with a left-back the most pressing concern though the club are also open to a new centre-back as well.

However, a right-winger remains the priority with Borussia Dortmund star Sancho the top target but negotiations remain at an impasse.

Though progress was made in talks regarding the 20-year-old's personal terms and agent costs, a deal has yet to be struck with Dortmund as United are adamant that they won't meet the Bundesliga side's €120million valuation up front.

Dortmund, meanwhile, are under no pressure to sell as Sancho's contract doesn't expire until 2023 and club officials have repeatedly stated that he won't be leaving the club this summer.

Head of Football Sebastien Kehl was the latest to reiterate Dortmund's stance on Monday, he said: "He is our player - and he will stay. It was an important statement from the club, because we have a certain responsibility. Without Jadon this team is worse."

Though United have not yet given up on the England international, a deal remains in doubt and a number of alternatives have been considered, including Bournemouth forward David Brooks, Juventus winger Douglas Costa and Ivan Perisic of Inter Milan.

Yet, with fans so set on wanting to see Sancho arrive at Old Trafford, they are split on who the club should go for if he doesn't. MEN Sport asked supporters: "If Manchester United don't sign Jadon Sancho this summer, who do you want the club to bring in as an alternative?"

The narrow winner with 40 per cent of the 12,217 votes was 'other,' with the fans' own suggestions including: Ismaila Sarr, Wilfried Zaha, Adama Traore, Leon Bailey and Said Benrahma. Many made it clear that anyone other than Sancho would be a disappointment.

Douglas Costa came second with 27.1 per cent, just beating out Perisic who claimed 20.5 per cent of the vote. In last place came Brooks on just 12.3 per cent.
