Manchester United fans slam lack of 'consistency' after Man City's Kevin De Bruyne escapes red card

Manchester United fans have slammed UEFA's officials for their lack of consistency after Kevin De Bruyne escaped a red card against PSG.

De Bruyne found himself in hot water during the first half of Man City's Champions League group stage clash with the French giants when he overstretched trying to challenge for the ball and landed studs first on the shin of Idrissa Gana Gueye.

A fortnight ago, Aaron Wan-Bissaka was shown a straight red card for a similar challenge on Young Boys' Christopher Martins and many feel De Bruyne was fortunate to escape similar punishment.

The Belgian international was booked for the incident, despite a VAR check, and it left United fans furious on social media.

Jordan tweeted: "How De Bruyne didn’t get a red when Wan Bissaka did for near enough an identical challenge is beyond me. Where’s the consistency?"

Craig Ellis added: "De Bruyne getting booked for the exact same challenge that Wan Bissaka got sent off for in the last round of Champions League fixtures. Why am I not surprised?"

And Franco continued: "Wan Bissaka shown a red for his challenge against Young Boys but De Bruyne gets a yellow for a worse challenge? These double standards are ridiculous."

Should De Bruyne have sent off? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below...
