Manchester United fans serenade Paul Pogba vs Crystal Palace after racist abuse

Manchester United fans gave Paul Pogba a rousing reception before their game against Crystal Palace kicked off, following a week in which the French midfielder was subject to racist abuse.

Pogba's missed penalty against Wolves prompted the horrendous abuse, but the Stretford End showed their appreciation by chanting 'there's only one Paul Pogba'.

There was also a new flag on display at Old Trafford for the Palace game, which read 'United against racism' as the Reds' rallied round their star man.

Pogba showed his appreciation in return by applauding the supporters.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been damning of the abusers in his pre-match press conference and United fans promised a gesture of support.

"We want to really get behind him vocally and let him know he's got the backing and support of the fans," a spokesman for the group told MEN Sport.

"Paul is a strong and it makes him stronger," said Solskjaer on the abuse.

"When you speak to him he's fine and I just cannot believe we're still here in 2019 talking about these instances. Social media is a place where people can hide behind fake identities."

The World Cup winner has often been a divisive character at United and supporters had contrasting views on whether the club should keep the 26-year-old this summer, after he'd suggested he wanted a "new challenge". After the final game of last season — a 2-0 defeat to relegated Cardiff City — he was involved in an altercation with supporters in the Stretford End.

But Pogba looks set to remain at the club and play a prominent role this season for Solskjaer's side and he certainly seems to have the backing of the United fanbase.
