Manchester United fans send Solskjaer message over Scott McTominay's replacement

Manchester United fans want to see James Garner handed his full Premier League debut at Sheffield United on Sunday.

United are without both for the trip to Bramall Lane, with the two key midfielders suffering from ankle injuries. And with Nemanja Matic only just back from injury, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a big decision to make in the centre of the park.

Solskjaer said in his that he was looking for someone to step up alongside the improving Fred in United's midfield.

"We lost Nemanja for a long period, that's going to take it's toll if you take three midfielders out of any top club," he said. "But Fred's stepped up and we'll have to try to conjure up a way of replacing them.

"Scotty has performed really well this season, finally we've nailed a position down for him, or he's nailed a position down for himself. And he's played regularly, he's been running midfield before defensive midfield, he's played centre-back, he's played everywhere. He was a striker when he was a kid.

"But now he's learning the game and his improvement has been great to see. We're gonna miss him at Sheffield United, set-plays, balls in the box. Scotty's gonna be a miss."

In response to a poll by MEN Sport, United fans chose Garner as the men to step into midfield.

In answer to the question: "Who should start alongside Fred in Manchester United's midfield against Sheffield United?" more than 52 per cent voted for Garner. A 21 per cent share voted for Matic, while 24 per cent wanted to see Andreas Pereira drop back from his No.10 role into a deeper midfield berth.

Two per cent selected "other" with Harry Maguire on left-field option touted for a midfield role.

The official team news will be revealed an hour before the 4.30pm kick off on Sunday afternoon.
