Manchester United fans send Solskjaer message about Mason Greenwood

Manchester United fans believe Mason Greenwood is ready for the first-team opportunities that may come his way in the coming campaign.

The teenager has shown glimpses of his potential in pre-season and could be set for a more prominent role at Old Trafford if Romelu Lukaku leaves for Inter Milan.

Greenwood made his full United debut in difficult circumstances, as the Reds finished their 2018/19 campaign with a humiliating 2-0 defeat at home to Cardiff, although the 17-year-old impressed despite spurning numerous chances to score.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly stated his intention to give Greenwood opportunities and even suggested — following a goal for Greenwood in the 4-0 pre-season win over Leeds on Wednesday — that he could face Chelsea on the opening day of the season.

"He's got a chance of starting that one, definitely," Solskjaer said. "He's more than capable and will always be there, in and around the box, creating chances. And I won't say that's not a possibility, no, it's a good possibility. If he keeps going as he does. It's difficult to keep players out who perform well."

MEN Sport put Solskjaer's suggestion to a poll, asking supporters: "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given hints about the role Mason Greenwood could play this season... so should he start the Premier League opener v Chelsea?"

Of 2,912 respondents, 49 per cent responded "yes, absolutely" and 45 per cent said "maybe on the bench", but only six per cent said "no, he's not ready".
