Manchester United fans send Ralf Rangnick message after Mauricio Pochettino approach rejected

Manchester United fans have been reacting to the latest developments in the managerial search after the club's initial approach for Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino was rejected while Ralf Rangnick was shortlisted as a candidate to take over as interim boss.

Hours after Michael Carrick guided United to Champions League qualification with the help of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, the efforts to fill the position intensified.

Two members of the Reds' hierarchy, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and managing director Richard Arnold didn't travel to the east of Spain for the win over Villarreal in order to conduct interviews with candidates for the interim position amid the possibility of PSG keeping the Argentinian as manager.

The former Spurs boss led les Parisiens to a French cup double last season and has guided them to an 11 point gap over nearest challengers OGC Nice with current holders Lille in 12th.

Rangnick's only encounter with Manchester United as manager came during Schalke's Champions League run that saw them reach the semi-final.

Since then, he went on to undergo positions with the Red Bull franchise in Leipzig and Salzburg before a stint in Brazil then taking over as head of sports and development at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Fans were evidently disappointed with the development surrounding the French side's decision to reject United's first approach.

But the pursuit of the German replaced the dismay with excitement.

Pochettino remained coy when he was quizzed on the speculation when speaking ahead of PSG's trip to Manchester City.

"I am not a kid, I am not a child. I spend my whole life playing football and now 12 years being a coach," he said.

"We are in a business where the rumours are there, I completely understand, sometimes in a positive or a negative way. I'm not distracted."
