Manchester United fans send message to Solskjaer over Europa League dilemma

Manchester United fans want to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer persist with Sergio Romero as his Europa League goalkeeper.

Solskjaer has largely used Romero between the posts in cup games this season, though David de Gea is the club's No.1 and will be in contention to feature in the knockout fixtures.

MEN Sport ran a poll asking United fans to vote on who they want to see play in goal against Copenhagen. United take on the Danish outfit in the Europa League quarter-final in Cologne on Monday night, having overcome LASK in the last 16.

The result was an overwhelming majority in favour of Romero. Of more than 4,000 votes, a 76 per cent share voted for Romero with only 24 per cent saying De Gea.

It remains to be seen whether Solskjaer will listen to the cries of fans, though Romero impressed in the second leg against LASK at Old Trafford last week.

United goalkeeping coach Richard Hartis recently spoke at length about the attributes Romero brings to the Old Trafford club.

“He’s obviously an experienced goalkeeper,” Hartis told United's official website on the Argentinian.

“He’s an international goalkeeper who has played in a World Cup final. I’ve found him to be extremely hard working. Very robust emotionally. He turns up to work every day and looks to better himself. Even now, at 33, he’s looking to make improvements to some fundamentals of his game, which is really refreshing.

“He’s a very professional guy. He takes his work seriously. I think since I’ve been back here he’s only missed one training session, so he’s on the grass, doing what’s asked of him, every single day."
