Manchester United fans send Jadon Sancho transfer message amid Rabbi Matondo interest

Manchester United fans have made it clear that the club must sign Jadon Sancho this summer and not Schalke's Rabbi Matondo.

Despite the suspension of football due to the coronavirus outbreak, United are continuing to pursue their priority transfer targets and Borussia Dortmund star Sancho is at the top of the list.

However, MEN Sport understands that United have identified Matondo as a possible back-up option if they are priced out of a deal to sign Sancho this summer.

After United failed to make a breakthrough in their pursuit of the England international last year they turned their attention to Daniel James, who joined for £15million from Swansea City. Sources say United regard Matondo in the same 'low-risk buy' bracket as his Wales teammate James.

Matondo followed Sancho's footsteps in departing Manchester City for the Bundesliga in search of first-team football by signing for Dortmund's arch rivals Schalke for £11.3million in January 2019.

The pacey 19-year-old is highly rated but has only made eight starts for Schalke this season, scoring one goal, and while those stats aren't mind-blowing, it's worth noting Sancho lined up in just seven league games for Dortmund in his first year in Germany.

Regardless of Matondo's potential, a lot of United fans aren't excited about the prospect of signing him and feel Sancho is the quality of player the club needs to sign to challenge for the Premier League.

Matondo and Sancho could face off against each other on Saturday when the Bundesliga returns with their sides set to meet in the fierce Revierderby.

After his breakout season last year, Sancho has enjoyed another breathtaking campaign at the Westfalenstadion having contributed a staggering 17 goals and 19 assists in 35 games.

The only other player in Europe's top five leagues to have over 12 goals and assists is Lionel Messi.
