Manchester United fans send defiant message over Ashley Young

Manchester United fans have reacted to the news that Ashley Young may be close to an exit by reflecting fondly on his nine-year stay at the club.

that Inter Milan have enquired about Young, who could leave United either in this January transfer window or in the summer when his contract expires.

Young joined United in 2011 from Aston Villa and has won the Premier League, League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League in his time at the club.

He converted himself from a winger into a full-back during that time and has recently been United's club captain. And although the 34-year-old has often come in for flak from some supporters, many have now insisted that Young's United career deserves respect.

United fans in the 'J' stand at Old Trafford during last season's grim 2-0 defeat to Cardiff City — on the final day of the campaign — defiantly chanted Young's name.

And now that defiant message has been mirrored by supporters on social media.

Some cited Young's versatility, others his work rate and longevity at United as reasons why he deserves to be fondly remembered as a United player. Young could join up with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte boss at Inter but it seems many United fans would be sad to see him depart.
