Manchester United fans send clear message amid Anthony Martial and Ousmane Dembele swap claims

Manchester United fans have set their sights on a different player amid reports the club could be offered a swap deal for Anthony Martial.

Reports in Spain today have claimed Barcelona are exploring the option of swapping Ousmane Dembele for the wantaway United striker.

Catalan outlet Ara has suggested Barca need to trim their wage bill before they can register new signing Ferran Torres, with the financial situation at the Camp Nou making things trickier for them in the January transfer window.

New boss Xavi is on the lookout for a new striker after Sergio Aguero was forced to retire, with another United forward in Edinson Cavani having been linked.

But Martial’s desire to leave Old Trafford could present them with another option, with United having already turned down an approach from Sevilla.

Dembele has been linked with a move to United previously, and with the 24-year-old entering the final few months of his contract in Spain, he could find himself on the move soon after an injury-laden few years.

United fans though aren’t too convinced the club should be looking at the French international as part of a swap deal for Martial, pointing towards his injury record and Ralf Rangnick’s plentiful options already in the forward areas.

Instead, they want to see United target another Barca player, with Frenkie de Jong top of their wish list.

De Jong is another player that has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, although the former Ajax star’s father seemed to rule out a move last month.

United are set to prioritise their midfield as Rangnick looks to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window.

Whether De Jong could become an option remains to be seen, although with Martial looking to make his exit, the striker could be used in any United efforts to secure some new signings.
