Manchester United fans scramble to secure Ronaldo shirts as club and Adidas struggle to meet demand

Cristiano Ronaldo fever has definitely hit United fans as last night it was confirmed by the club that he would return to his iconic number seven jersey for the upcoming season.

Ronaldo, of course, wore the number seven shirt during his initial spell with the club.

The number was registered to Edinson Cavani for the upcoming season and he played in it during Manchester United’s fixture with Wolves last weekend, but the Premier League has given the club special dispensation to give the shirt number to Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was overjoyed about this and has made his feelings known in a message to his Uruguayan teammate.

The club's kit sponsor Adidas have sold out of replica versions of the home, away and third kit on their official UK site, with only the authentic versions remaining.

Some fans, who ordered online, were told that their shirts would not be delivered until October in certain cases.

But what if you wanted to get a shirt in person?

Fans were seen queueing outside the club’s megastore at Old Trafford before it opened its doors this morning.

Inside the store, as 3pm approached, the megastore had sold all its pre-printed editions of Ronaldo’s jersey and if you wanted to get it printed, they had run out of all versions of the number except the official Premier League editions.

This meant that you couldn’t get Ronaldo printing on an away shirt or in the club’s Champions League font.

On top of that, there was a 45–60-minute wait for the shirt to be printed.

No player in recent memory has incited this sort of reaction from the United fanbase and this isn’t the end of the rush to get a Ronaldo shirt.

He is set to make his second debut for the club on September 11th at Old Trafford against Newcastle United.

And you can expect to see a sea of number sevens in the crowd for that game.
