Manchester United fans react to starting line-up vs Aston Villa as Cristiano Ronaldo is left out

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has named his starting line-up for Manchester United's FA Cup third-round clash with Aston Villa at Old Trafford this evening, make some intriguing decisions.

United, who were beaten 1-0 by Villa in the Premier League earlier this season, will be looking to get back on track after suffering a 1-0 reverse to Wolves last time out.

Joao Moutinho's late effort was enough to seal all three points for the visitors and condemn United to their first defeat since sacking former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November.

Rangnick, who will sample the taste of FA Cup football for the first time this evening, has made five changes to the side that was beaten last Monday evening.

Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Fred, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford have come into the side, meaning Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Phil Jones, Nemanja Matic, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo have dropped out of the starting line-up, as Rangnick continues to assess the options he has within his squad.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been left out of the squad as he pushes for a temporary loan exit.

Although United ought to be prioritising an FA Cup run this season, changes were always likely this evening, with no shortage of Premier League managers, nowadays, using the competition as an opportunity to rotate their pack and present opportunities to those who have not been playing as frequently as they would like.

Rangnick will be hoping that his decision to make five changes pays off and United book a fourth-round date with Middlesbrough at the beginning of next month.

As you can see from the messages displayed above, Rangnick's decision to leave Ronaldo out of the squad has attracted no shortage of attention, but some United supporters, surprisingly, have welcomed the decision.

It has been claimed by some in recent weeks that United may be better without the Portuguese star, meaning tonight's clash will Villa will provide the answer.
