Manchester United fans react to Paul Scholes pass in predictable fashion

Paul Scholes was one of many Manchester United greats involved in Vincent Kompany's testimonial at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

The 44-year-old started in central midfield for a Premier League All-Stars team and rolled back the years with an imperious performance in front of a sell-out crowd.

Scholes produced one of the stand-out moments of the match when he impudently flicked a Mikel Arteta pass into the path of former Everton player Tim Cahill.

The match itself ended in a draw, with Martin Petrov opening the scoring for City before Robbie Keane equalised for the All-Stars. The All-Stars took the lead after the break through Robin van Persie but Benjani scored late on to make it 2-2.

Van Persie's goal was perhaps the pick of the bunch but it was Scholes' pass that Mike Phelan appeared to enjoy the most, as he posted a gif of it on Twitter on Thursday morning.

Considering United's current lack of quality in midfield, it was no surprise to see fans jokingly calling for Scholes to come out of retirement for a second time.

Sign him up.

He wouldn't cost a penny.

Put him straight into the starting line-up.

Get Van Persie in too.

He just needs a chance!

He'd be better than Fred.
