Manchester United fans react to Chris Smalling's imminent transfer to Roma

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is closing in on a move to Roma on a season-long loan deal, MEN Sport understands.

Smalling has fallen out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, not featuring in any of United's first three match day squads. The MEN understands that the Norwegian has told the defender that he will have limited playing time this season and is free to leave in search of regular first-team football.

The arrival of Harry Maguire from Leicester in the summer has pushed Smalling further down the pecking order. The former England international was linked with a move to Everton, but it seems he is heading to the Serie A.

Manchester United fans went to social media to make their feelings known on his imminent departure.

Some fans feel that Solskjaer is making a mistake in allowing Smalling to depart over the likes of Phil Jones or Marcos Rojo.
