Manchester United fans react in two ways to Marcus Rashford captaincy vs Man City

Manchester United fans have reacted with a mixture of surprise and delight as Marcus Rashford was named captain for the first time in his career, for tonight's clash with Man City.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has selected Rashford as his on-field captain for the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, which sees a repeat of the derby fixture that United won 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium a month ago.

The decision comes with United depleted due to an injury to Harry Maguire, who regularly steps in as skipper when club captain Ashley Young isn't playing. Young isn't in the squad to face City, although Rashford has been given the nod ahead of David de Gea who has captained United in the past.

Phil Jones is Maguire's replacement at centre-back while Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood keep their spots after playing in the FA Cup stalemate at Wolves on Saturday evening. De Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Fred and Rashford are the first teamers to return to the side having been rested for Wolves.

Anthony Martial, who has been suffering with illness, is on the bench, while Jesse Lingard starts in the No.10 role.

On Rashford wearing the armband, many supporters raised an eyebrow on social media, though others expressed their concern that about an inexperienced 22-year-old leading out United.

Here's how they reacted to the team:

United XI vs Man City: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Jones, Lindelof, Williams; Fred, Pereira; James, Lingard, Rashford; Greenwood.

Subs: Romero, Dalot, Matic, Chong, Gomes, Mata, Martial.
