Manchester United fans react as Tottenham 'close' to Sergio Reguilon transfer

Manchester United fans are furious at the prospect of the club missing out on Sergio Reguilon to Tottenham Hotspur.

M.E.N. Sport understands that United are working on up to three more signings before the October 5 transfer deadline, having already signed Ajax playmaker Donny van de Beek.

While attacking signings remain the priority and Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is still the club's top target, the club are also considering a move for a new left-back due to uncertainty in the position.

Luke Shaw's absence was keenly felt at the tail end of last season, with United losing two semi-finals, after he was ruled out with an ankle injury. His replacement, teenager Brandon Williams, struggled for form on his weaker side, with Marcos Rojo, Diogo Dalot and Timothy Fosu-Mensah the only other options at left-back.

As a result, it's understood the club's recruitment department are monitoring Real Madrid's Reguilon, who impressed on loan at Sevilla last season and helped knock United out of the Europa League.

Despite the 23-year-old's clear ability, he remains behind Ferland Mendy and Marcelo in the pecking order at Madrid and appears likely to leave the Bernabeu this summer.

Sevilla effectively ruled themselves out of the race after signing a new left-back earlier this week, which appeared to open the door for United with speculation mounting that Reguilon wanted to move to Old Trafford.

However, reports via The Athletic on Tuesday evening suggest that Jose Mourinho has swooped in to sign him for Spurs.

It's reported that a deal is not yet done but progress has been made and it is 'close,' with no agreement having been made with United.

Fans have been excited about the potential arrival of the Spaniard and are enraged at the thought that he could go to a Premier League rival, especially one who isn't in the Champions League, instead of United.

Should United miss out on Reguilon, it's understood that they are also monitoring Dynamo Kiev's 21-year-old left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko.
