Manchester United fans point out Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil stat after Europa League final

It's been a season to forget for two of Arsenal's record signings, who took different decisions over their respective Gunners' futures in January 2018.

While Mesut Ozil signed a bumper new deal at the Emirates, Alexis Sanchez joined Manchester United in a swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move in the opposite direction — though neither have enjoyed particularly productive times on the pitch since.

Sanchez has failed to replicate the form he showed at the Gunners and Ozil has regularly been left out of the Arsenal team by Unai Emery in the past season. He was unable to influence Wednesday night's Europa League final Chelsea to a 4-1 win against the Gunners.

In the wake of Arsenal's humiliating defeat, United fans were quick to spot an eye-opening stat, which proves how both players have gone downhill since that fateful January.

Ozil recorded just three assists in the whole of the 2018/19 season from the 2420 minutes he played, while Sanchez managed four from around half of that playing time (1240 minutes).

With the German World Cup winner enjoying a reputation as an 'assist king' — once notching 20 assists in a season for Arsenal (in the 2015/16 campaign), there was a great deal of amusement among United fans at the statistic. Sanchez has been widely criticised for his United performances, managing just five goals in all competitions since joining the Reds, but clearly Ozil has struggled too.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for both players. Sanchez has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford while Ozil hasn't been a favourite under Emery and could also seek pastures new in the summer.
