Manchester United fans pinpoint two players as positives vs Newcastle

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has received adulation from supporters after netting his club's second-half equaliser against Newcastle, with fans also lavishing praise on David de Gea for a point-saving stop.

Uruguay international Cavani took his season tally to two goals on his first game back from a tendon injury that had kept him out for nearly two months.

De Gea then ensured United came away from St James' Park with a 1-1 draw thanks to a world class save from to keep out an 88th-minute Miguel Almirón effort.

United supporters took to Twitter to praise Cavani with some pleading him to stay, with transfer links to Barcelona rife.

@Oliversauna: Cavani's movement is actually insane. He just knew exactly where he needed to be.

@UnitedDNA99: Edi Cavani will go down as a cult hero for United.

@UnitedSupremo: Keep Cavani at all costs.

@ftblTheo_: PLEASE DON'T LEAVE EDI

Many United supporters also directed praise at de Gea for that spectacular late save.

@AnnemarieDray: David de Gea Manchester United’s MOTM

@utdrobbo: David De Gea is the sole reason why we haven't gone pointless over our last two games.

@mrmichaelbarton: De Gea definitely back in the running as one of the best in the world again. Some unreal saves this year.

@allthingsgrey: De Gea is fighting for us bro

@ThomasClay3: Without De Gea we’d be in the bottom half

De Gea takes him clean sheet record for this season up to six across all competitions.

The result means United sit seventh, seven points off the top four, as Ralf Rangnick dropped his first points as interim boss. They have played two games less than Arsenal, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
