Manchester United fans notice what Victor Lindelof did vs Istanbul Basaksahir

Manchester United fans lavished praise on Victor Lindelof for his superb pass in the build-up to their side's third goal against Istanbul Basaksahir.

United were 2-0 ahead with 30 minutes gone when the centre-back sent a superb lofted ball from the edge of his own box to meet the run of Marcus Rashford midway inside the visitors' half.

It put Rashford through on goal and he burst into the penalty box before being barged to the ground by a defender, winning a penalty that he coolly dispatched to make it 3-0.

United fans were quick to hail Lindelof for his role in the goal.

Lindelof was replaced at half-time in the 4-1 win due to an ongoing back complaint.

Speaking post-match, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said it was too soon to tell whether the Swede and fellow defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who also went off injured, will be fit for Sunday's trip to Southampton.

"Hopefully they’ll be ready for the weekend but we’re not sure," he said. "It’s back problems for Victor and Aaron had an ankle problem so there was no point taking any more chances and risking more swelling to it."

Janne Andersson, Lindelof's national team boss with Sweden, warned earlier this week that Lindelof would have a recurrence of his back problem if he is not given a break from United's relentless schedule.

“He basically plays Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, Tuesday and so on, for as long as he wants," the Swedish boss told local outlet Fotbollskanalen. "And he had hardly any leave at all between the seasons now.

“That not more players have injuries… I am surprised. I am also surprised that there has not been more discussion and reasoning about it from a sporting and medical perspective.

"This is extremely tough for the players. And it’s not like they play against bad teams. These are very tough matches all the time.

“I really hope Victor can get his back in order. Injured players… it’s not fun. If he gets the chance to fully recover, we will see in the future.”
