Manchester United fans name Thiago Silva regret as Chelsea close in on transfer

Some Manchester United fans are gutted that the club aren't making a move to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva this summer, with Chelsea looking likely to snap him on a free transfer.

The legendary centre-back will leave PSG this summer when his contract expires but he could depart as a European champion, with his last game being Sunday's Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Although Silva is now 35, he has still played a massive part in the Parisiens' march to the final and remains a brilliant defender despite his loss of pace, which could make him a shrewd signing on a free.

According to the Guardian, Chelsea are considering signing the Brazilian to help shore up their defence after they conceded 54 goals in the Premier League last season.

While attacking positions are the priority for United this summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn't ruled out signing a new centre-back and the club have been linked with several expensive options.

However, United fans believe they should try and sign Silva as he would save funds for other targets while also bringing a considerable amount of experience and quality to the back-line.

You can see a selection of their reactions below:

Chelsea have already had a busy summer having completed the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, while they are also expected to sign Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz.

Meanwhile United have yet to make a signing as they continue to negotiate for Jadon Sancho - a lack of progress that has left fans concerned ahead of the new season.
