Some Manchester United fans have urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make a move for Ajax star Donny van de Beek instead of pursuing a deal for Bournemouth playmaker David Brooks.
MEN Sport understands United are yet to make official contact with the Wales international but could make a serious bid, as their attempts to sign Jadon Sancho continue to stall.
The 23-year-old has been on United's radar for some time and could be attainable for around £40million this summer, with the Cherries needing to sell players after their relegation from the Premier League. It appears Brooks is a firm target but there have been no talks yet between United and the player's representatives.
Van de Beek is also of interest to United this summer but MEN Sport understand he is not a priority target.
The Dutchman is expected to follow in the footsteps of Matthijs de Ligt and Frankie de Jong in leaving the club this summer and United fans believe he would offer much better value for money than Brooks.
Van de Beek reiterated his commitment to Ajax when asked about his future earlier last week.
He told Fox Sports: "It is very messy, in any case a very messy period in terms of transfers. Nothing is certain yet. I am still a player of Ajax and I am still proud to be there.
"If there had not been the coronavirus, it might have been different now. There is no clarity now and we have to wait and see how it turns out.
"I'm still here and after all these years I still have a lot of fun. If I also play at Ajax next season, I still have a lot of fun. You won't hear me complaining."
