Manchester United fans name perfect Nemanja Matic successor after youngster's international debut

Manchester United fans believe that Dylan Levitt is the perfect replacement for Nemanja Matic following his impressive debut for Wales.

United legend and Wales manager Ryan Giggs has been keen on promoting talented youngsters to the national side during his stint in charge and, after being a regular in the squad, Levitt finally made his debut in the 1-0 victory over Finland in the Nations League on Thursday.

It was his United teammate Daniel James who grabbed the headlines with a man-of-the-match performance after setting up Kieffer Moore's winner, but the United academy graduate didn't put a foot wrong in his first match on the international stage.

Playing in a deep midfield position, the 19-year-old completed a tidy 84 per cent of his passes, with an 83 per cent long passing accuracy, but it was the defensive side of his game that particularly stood out and makes him look like an ideal successor to Matic in the holding midfield role.

Levitt won four ground duels and two tackles, as well as making four clearances and one interception, as he helped Wales grind out the win.

The Welshman has made just one appearance for the United first team as he played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Astana in the Europa League last season but there are high hopes for him at Old Trafford.

MEN Sport understands that Levitt is set leave the club on loan this summer and has already received a number of offers, with a move to the Championship or League One the most likely. However, he isn't ruling out the possibility of a move abroad after turning down interest from Holland in January in favour of staying in Manchester.

Supporters are hoping Levitt can gain some much need first team experience this coming season and can return ready to succeed Matic in the middle of the park.

Matic impressed towards the latter half of the season so much that he earned himself an unexpected extension to his contract, keeping him at the club until 2023.
