Manchester United fans name eight players who should be sold

Manchester United supporters have identified the EIGHT players they want to see leave the club at the earliest opportunity.

In response to an MEN Sport article asking which players should stay and which should leave, ahead of the January transfer window, United fans responded by naming Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Marcos Rojo, Fred, Ashley Young, Nemanja Matic and Phil Jones as the players who ought to be sold.

It comes after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sold Romelu Lukaku and Matteo Darmian to Italian clubs in the summer, while shipping Chris Smalling and Alexis Sanchez out on loan. Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia also left, on free transfers.

And while Solskjaer has been widely praised by United fans for 'shifting the deadwood' from his squad, he's been criticised for not replacing key stars like Lukaku and Herrera.

But that's not stopping United fans from voicing their opinion on other players they'd like to see moved on by the club.

Centre-back Jones polled the lowest in terms of a percentage who want to see him stay, with just 11.8 per cent.

Matic, who is in the final year of his United contract, was level on 11.8 per cent.

Young, Fred and Rojo — who have all been in fairly poor form for United this season — all got less than 25 per cent, while Lingard's lack of league goals or assists in 2019 was reflected in the fact that only 27.4 per cent of voters believe he should be kept.

Mata signed a new two-year contract at United in the summer, but at least 65 per cent of people believe he should be sold. That figure is around 63 per cent with midfielder Pereira, who's had a poor start to the season albeit being played out of position on the right wing.

In terms of players fans want to see kept at the club, predictably the new signings and promising young players came out on top.

Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Mason Greenwood all got 97 per cent or more, with fans keen to see the young trio develop further at the club. Axel Tuanzebe got 96.2 per cent, Scott McTominay 95.4 per cent and Harry Maguire 94.8 per cent.

Those who split opinion a little more included Paul Pogba, with 64 per cent of United supporters believing the Frenchman should be kept at the club. Injured centre-back Eric Bailly got 54.7 per cent and reserve goalkeeper Lee Grant 53.8 per cent.
