Manchester United fans mock wording of Dean Henderson to Chelsea FC transfer report

Manchester United fans have reacted to a report that said Chelsea are preparing a mammoth bid for goalkeeper Dean Henderson .

The 23-year-old is coming to the end of his second season on loan at Sheffield United and has enhanced his reputation during the 2019-20 Premier League campaign. David de Gea's latest error against Spurs prompted calls from some supporters for Henderson to be installed as United's first-choice goalkeeper next season.

A report in The Sun this weekend said Henderson has emerged as a target for Chelsea. Chelsea's record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga has failed to impress following his move from Spain which has reportedly led Frank Lampard to target the United stopper. The Blues are believed to be willing to offer £50million to secure his signature.

United fans found the wording of a tweet relating to the report humorous. It claimed United were 'battling' Chelsea in a 'transfer tug of war' to keep Henderson.

United legend Peter Schmeichel recently said talk of Henderson returning to United to replace De Gea is premature.

He told The Metro: "We have one of the best goalkeepers in the world at Manchester United.

"There’s no sign that he’s going to leave the club, why would he? He already had the opportunity a couple of times.

"In the last six years he was player of the year four times. He’s done fantastic but the fact of the matter is there’s only one goalkeeper in the team.

"For every youngster and especially young goalkeepers there is so much that you need to learn when it comes to the toughest end of top football like the Champions League and international tournaments.

"You have to have so much experience and I see no harm in Dean Henderson continuing playing for Sheffield United. Every day he will learn something new."
