Manchester United fans, Marcus Rashford and Gary Lineker react to Cristiano Ronaldo performance

Cristiano Ronaldo picked up as if he had never left in his second debut for Manchester United as he scored twice in a 4-1 win over Newcastle.

The Reds struggled to break the visitors down in the first half, only for Ronaldo to open the scoring on the stroke of half-time when the goalkeeper fumbled a Mason Greenwood strike and allowed him to tap into an empty net.

Newcastle equalised early in the second half through Javier Manquillo's low drive after a counter attack, only for Ronaldo to once again pop up and show everyone why the Reds swooped to complete his signing despite being 36-years-old.

The forward latched on to a lovely through ball from Luke Shaw and took one touch to set himself before firing between the legs of the goalkeeper with his left foot to restore United's lead.

Bruno Fernandes scores a screamer from the edge of the box to make it 3-1 before substitute Jesse Lingard wrapped up the points after a fine team move in injury time.

PLAYER RATINGS: How Ronaldo scored vs Newcastle

But it was Ronaldo's performance that grabbed the headlines predictably and fans were delighted by the immediate impact he had as he sent Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to the top of the league on goal difference.

Attention immediately switches to United's next game, where they will take on Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday evening in Switzerland.
