Manchester United fans make the same point after Jack Grealish signs new contract

Manchester United fans are not disappointed by Jack Grealish's decision to sign a new long-term contract with Aston Villa to end speculation over his future.

MEN Sport understands Grealish was a target for United as he fits the profile of player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the MEN revealed on Tuesday that no discussions were ever held with Villa over a deal for the 25-year-old.

Instead United's focus during the window has been on their top target, in Borussia Dortmund's England winger Jadon Sancho.

United signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax earlier in the summer and, although it is understood the Holland international was not seen as a direct alternative to Grealish, supporters believe the club made the right call in not moving for Grealish as they feel he would not have offered value for money.

Grealish spoke of his delight at signing a new deal just a week after making his England debut.

He told Villa's website: "I am delighted to make this commitment to Villa. It is my club, my home and I am very happy here. The owners have made it very clear to me how ambitious they are and how they want to build Aston Villa. There are exciting times ahead and I am very glad to be part of it.”
