Manchester United supporters are mapping out the same pathway for Wayne Rooney after he was made an early favourite to replace Rafa Benitez at Everton.
Having won only once in the Premier League since September, the Spanish former Liverpool man has been issued his P45 six months on from taking charge at Goodison Park.
Everton were defeated by relegation-threatened Norwich City yesterday afternoon.
As the dust continues to settle on that decision, several names have already been thrown into the hat and Rooney - who needs no introduction at Old Trafford - is the initial favourite with many bookmakers.
Given the current managerial situation at United, meanwhile, fans have been quick to make the same point.
Indeed, while expressing their views on social media, suggestions that club-record goalscorer Rooney might decide to swap Derby County for Everton are being tipped to boost his longer-term prospects for the United hot-seat.
Here are a selection of comments made by United supporters on Twitter;
@CraigJeffery99 said: "Rooney in next season at Everton, couple years there doing well and then the United job would be my bet."
