Manchester United fans make Ronaldo comparison after what Bruno Fernandes did off the pitch

Bruno Fernandes has been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo for something he did off the pitch during Manchester United's victory over Manchester City.

Fernandes has earned plenty of plaudits since arriving at Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.

He has quickly established himself as a key man for United, scoring 24 goals and providing 17 assists in 42 Premier League appearances.

The attacking midfielder was on target once again in Sunday's 2-0 win over City at the Etihad Stadium.

He netted from the penalty spot after Anthony Martial had been fouled by Gabriel Jesus inside the opening 30 seconds of the match.

Left-back Luke Shaw added a second goal soon after the interval as United ended City's 21-match winning streak to cut their gap at the top of the table to 11 points.

Fernandes had to watch the final moments from the sidelines after being substituted in the third minute of stoppage time.

After being replaced by Brandon Williams, the Portugal star was spotted standing behind manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the touchline - still in his kit - anxiously watching the action as the clock ticked down.

Although United were two goals ahead, Fernandes still seemed to be kicking every ball as he willed his team to victory.

Fans praised him for his mentality - and drew comparisons with compatriot Ronaldo.

The former United ace did something similar as Portugal closed in on Euro 2016 glory.

"Reminds me of Ronaldo at the Euros," said one supporter on Twitter.

Another tweeted: "Common theme with Portuguese greats."

A third fan said of Fernandes: "Future manager!"
