Manchester United fans make Odion Ighalo transfer plea as loan approaches end

Manchester United fans have made it clear that they want Odion Ighalo to stay at the club when his loan spell ends.

After opting against signing Erling Braut Haaland in January as they looked to bolster their attacking ranks, United instead made the surprising move of bringing Ighalo in on loan for the rest of the season from Shanghai Shenhua.

United received plenty of ridicule for signing the former Watford striker who had been playing in China for the last three years but he quickly proved them wrong.

The Nigerian scored four goals and grabbed an assist in just three starts for the club, while also proving a useful option off the bench in the Premier League, and fans quickly took to him due to his obvious love for the club.

Playing for United was a dream for Ighalo but it sadly looks like it will be cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic which has seen the suspension of football in England.

The 30-year-old's loan deal is set to expire at the end of June and, according to Sky Sports, his parent club Shanghai expect him to be back for the start of the Chinese Super League in early July.

So United face the prospect of having to complete the season without Ighalo and some supporters have expressed their hope that the club can keep him.

You can find a selection of their responses below:

It may be difficult for United to sign Ighalo permanently, however, as Sky Sports claim that Shanghai are demanding upwards of £20million for the striker.

"There is no offer on the table yet," Ighalo told Elegbete TV last month.

"Because the season is still on and I'm yet to finish my loan deal. I don't just take decisions alone in my life. I have a principle and I have a guideline for everything I do. I always pray to God to direct me."
