Manchester United fans make Eric Bailly prediction after performance against Wolves

Manchester United fans have hailed the performance of Eric Bailly in their 1-0 victory over Wolves.

The defender had a dominant performance at centre-back, snuffing out a number of Wolves opportunities and helping United to a clean sheet that ultimately enabled them to win the game through Marcus Rashford's last-gasp deflected strike.

It was the 26-year-old's third game within a week after an injury-hit few seasons at Old Trafford and his performance has reminded many of what the Ivorian is capable of in the heart of defence.

Plenty of United fans on Twitter praised Bailly's performance and backed him to continue to impress should he stay fit.

Bailly's performance also earned praise from manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who praised the way the centre-back and holding midfielder Nemanja Matic were able to prevent Wolves hitting the Reds on the counter-attack.

He said: "We had to defend well because, on the counter-attack, Wolves are always so dangerous.

"I thought Eric Bailly did fantastically all night, breaking up a few counter-attacks and Nemanja Matic, second half.

"We just adjusted a couple of positions in the second half to stop their counters and I think it worked."

Bailly's appearance against Everton in the Carabao Cup last week was his first for the Reds since early October after suffering an injury on international duty.

The Ivory Coast international is just four appearances in all competitions from equalling the 11 he made last season during an injury-hit year.

Despite his troubles, Bailly was given a new contract in January that runs until the summer of 2022, and he admitted that he was thankful for the Reds' show of faith in him.

He said: "For me it was very important. At a time when I was suffering a little bit and struggling with my injury, the club showed great confidence, enough to extend my contract, and it gives me a real feeling of prestige to be able to continue being part of this squad and this club.

"The feeling then is that I want to pay back that faith and confidence they’ve shown in me and being part of something here."
