Manchester United fans make defensive demand ahead of Arsenal fixture

Manchester United fans have told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to start Luke Shaw against Arsenal in the Premier League fixture on Monday night.

England international Shaw has missed the last five United games with a hamstring injury which he picked up during United's 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace earlier in the season.

Shaw returned to first-team training last week and Solskjaer confirmed that he will undergo a late fitness test ahead of the clash at Old Trafford.

"Luke's back in training today, so let's see how he is," the United manager said last Friday. "He's getting there so let's see how he reacts the next couple of days. He's been working really hard, so we hope to see him before the international break. Maybe Monday, but not too sure."

In his absence Solskjaer has given minutes to Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo and Brandon Williams at left-back, but the majority of fans appear to want Shaw back in the line up.

MEN Sport ran a social media poll on Sunday which quizzed fans of the matter, with 47 per cent of respondents voting in favour of Shaw.

Fan favourite Rojo finished second with 25 per cent of the vote, while Williams received 21 per cent of backing. Club captain Young finished in fourth with seven per cent of votes.

Although it was Shaw who won the poll, the majority of replies to the Twitter thread gave their backing to Argentine international Rojo.

One fan replied saying: "Rojo has been better than Shaw at left back unless you don’t want to tell the truth," while another backed the 29-year-old by saying: "Someone (who is) revived..someone with good defence capabilities..someone that truly wants to make his mark on the first team, some one with surprisingly new crossing abilities..Marcos ROJO..believe it or not!..the rest won't do better than him at the moment!"
