Manchester United fans make Dean Henderson demand after latest David de Gea error vs Everton

Manchester United fans have pleaded with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give Dean Henderson a chance to earn the number one spot at Old Trafford next season after another costly error from David de Gea.

The Spaniard's form has looked a shadow of his former self in recent months and allowed Everton to take the lead at Goodison Park within five minutes.

De Gea received a back pass and took far too long to release the ball before finally rifling the ball at the onrushing Dominic Calvert-Lewin which resulted in the opening goal.

His error was the seventh that directly led to an opposition goal since the start of last season, the joint-most in the Premier League alongside Martin Dubravka, Bernd Leno and Jordan Pickford.

Despite a fine late save to deny the Toffees in the dying stages, many United fans feel it's time for Henderson to be given the chance to become the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

The 22-year-old has impressed during his loan spell at Sheffield United and is expected to travel with England to the upcoming European Championships.

Here is how United fans reacted on social media:

Former United midfielder Roy Keane was highly critical of De Gea following the draw.

He believes there was no excuses for his mistake.

"As a manager or a player, you'd kill him," Keane told Sky Sports. "It's crazy goalkeeping.

"He is being too clever. He takes too long. What is he waiting for? He has to make a decision and do it quickly.

"You have got an experienced goalkeeper and what is he waiting for? There is a bit of arrogance there.

"I would have lynched him at half time. I would have had no time for that carry-on. Keepers can make mistakes but there are no excuses for that.

"Sometimes a player doesn't have anywhere to go and you just accept it. As a player you would be having a go at him. Hopefully he will keep a clean sheet in the second half."
