Manchester United fans loved what Bruno Fernandes did to Jesse Lingard away from TV cameras

The arrival of Bruno Fernandes was one of the main reasons Jesse Lingard couldn't cement a place in the first-team at Manchester United.

However, the respect both men have for each other is clearly strong as a video recorded by United's global head of social media prior to kick-off demonstrates.

The 28-year-old has started life in east London brilliantly, already scoring four goals for the Irons since making the temporary switch in January, but Premier League rules prevented Lingard from featuring against his parent club.

His future at United is unclear at the moment and, considering his form for West Ham, David Moyes could be eyeing a permanent deal this summer.

Before the game, United fans were alerted to what happened between Fernandes and Lingard just outside the Old Trafford tunnel.

Lingard waited to greet his United team-mates as they came in from the warm-up and when Fernandes spotted him the Portuguese stopped in his tracks and gave Lingard a hug, prompting fans to laud his personality.

A couple of days prior to United vs West Ham, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer called the decision to let Lingard leave the club on loan a "no-brainer".

"It has really worked out for Jesse, for David and for us as a club as well," said Solskjaer. "We know Jesse's position is a 10 and we've got Bruno (Fernandes) there.

"For me, it was a no-brainer to get Jesse a chance to prove himself and play some football again. He has been really bright for them. He's finally back to himself."
