Manchester United fans leap to Ralf Rangnick's defence amid Carabao Cup comments backlash

Manchester United fans have leapt to Ralf Rangnick's defence after pundit Jamie O'Hara launched a scathing attack on the interim manager.

The criticism of the 63-year-old comes after his comments suggesting a discussion should be held surrounding the Carabao Cup and fixture congestion.

It comes amid a debate among players and managers surrounding the welfare of footballers during the busy festive period that sees matches played on the 26th and 28th, with Manchester United playing December 27 and December 30 this year.

O'Hara questioned the credibility of the recently appointed interim boss Rangnick, who was given his first role in the English top-flight with United.

Speaking on talkSPORT, O'Hara said: “The fixture pile-up is the fixture pile-up! It hasn’t changed, it is what it is.

“Who’s this Ralf Rangnick geezer? Who is he?

"He’s been here two minutes and all of a sudden he’s dictating what’s going on and what we should do over here. He needs to get back in his box.

“He’s an interim manager telling us the Carabao Cup is not even worthy.

“He’s got a lot to say for himself, hasn’t he? He needs to pipe down.”

United fans were quick to point out a number of disagreements they had with O'Hara. This is what they said:

Rangnick's initial comments came in his press conference on Thursday. “England is the only top league that plays two cup competitions. In France they abolished the second one," he said.

“This is something we could speak about and discuss. The League Cup is still kept for the third and fourth division teams to improve the financial situations of those clubs.

"But in a tight calendar with too many games, this is something to speak and discuss.

“The other thing is the FA Cup and the replays. That’s been changed and that’s a good thing. In other countries you never have replays, those are topics we could speak about.”
