Manchester United fans hijack Marcus Rashford message to Jadon Sancho on Twitter

Some Manchester United fans reacted in predictable fashion online after Marcus Rashford wished transfer target Jadon Sancho a happy birthday.

A busy summer transfer window is expected at United after their hopes of finally reclaiming the Premier League title were dashed by neighbours Manchester City.

While a centre-back and a striker are the Reds' priority targets, a first-team ready right-winger is still on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's wish list and Sancho remains the ideal target for the position.

United are big admirers of the Borussia Dortmund star and have failed in three attempts to sign him, the last coming in 2020 when they refused to meet Dortmund's lofty asking price.

Sancho has enjoyed another excellent season in Germany, with 12 goals and 16 assists in 31 games, and as a result United fans are still desperate to see him arrive at Old Trafford.

When Rashford tweeted Sancho to wish him a happy 21st birthday on Thursday, some supporters got a bit giddy.

Sancho and Rashford will both miss England's upcoming international fixtures due to injuries. Rashford initially linked up with the rest of the squad at St George's Park but an ankle injury saw him sent back to United to continue his recovery, ahead of the Reds' return to action at home to Brighton on 4 April.
