Manchester United fans hijack Edwin van der Sar tweet with predictable demand

Some Manchester United fans reacted in a predictable manner after the club sent the former goalkeeper a message on his birthday.

Van der Sar turned 49 on Tuesday and a tweet from United's official account said: "One of the all-time goalkeeping greats – a very happy birthday to former United No.1, Edwin van der Sar".

The Dutchman, who won seven major trophies during his six-year stay at United, has been linked with a return to the club as a result of his success in his role as Ajax's CEO.

United are yet to appoint a technical director and that is the position with which it has been speculated Van der Sar would be suited to.

When Van der Sar responded to the birthday message sent to him by United on Twitter, plenty of fans replied asking him when he would be returning to the club...

Have you got a date for your return yet, Edwin?

DoF.

Come home.

Could he be the CEO instead?

Pretty please.
