Manchester United fans highlight sole positive from Man City defeat

Manchester United fans believe the 'homegrown' goal in the second half against Man City was the only positive from an otherwise disappointing Manchester derby.

City stormed into a 3-0 lead at Old Trafford after a first half in which the visitors were completely dominant. Bernardo Silva opened the scoring with a 25-yard thunderbolt before Riyad Mahrez rounded David de Gea and passed into an empty net, with Andreas Pereira's unfortunate own goal seemingly putting the tie beyond United.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side produced a more spirited display after the interval, particularly following the introduction of Angel Gomes and finally got their goal — their first of 2020 — when Marcus Rashford latched onto Mason Greenwood and finished coolly into the bottom corner.

United couldn't pull another goal back, meaning they will head to the Etihad Stadium for the second leg with a very slim chance of getting to Wembley.

Yet plenty of United supporters viewed the combination of Rashford and Greenwood, with Gomes behind them, as the "only positive" from a derby dominated by City.

Many believe Gomes should be retained by the club, with his current contract due to expire in the summer. Rashford's finishing and Greenwood's ability to make things happen were also lauded by United fans on social media as the homegrown pair continue to impress.
