Manchester United fans have Saul Niguez theory after Atletico Madrid star's 'transfer announcement'

Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez has sent Manchester United fans into a frenzy after he seemingly announced he was set to sign for a new club.

Despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward's warning that the upcoming transfer window will be like no other in a post-coronavirus world, United are still planning to go ahead with their transfer strategy and are hoping to add a new midfielder to the squad.

The versatile and talented Saul, who can play on either flank or through the middle, has been repeatedly linked with United in recent years but a transfer has never come to fruition.

Yet the 25-year-old has fuelled speculation that he could leave Atletico after he appeared to suggest he was set to sign for a new club after he tweeted: "New club. I'll announce it. 3 days..."

A large number of United fans have been left excited by the announcement and hope Saul could finally make the move to Old Trafford.

You can see a selection of their reactions below:

However, other fans believe that Saul is actually hinting towards another venture away from his playing career and not a transfer at all, and the 'announcement' is a simply a clever PR move.

The Spaniard's contract at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium doesn't expire until 2026 and he has a massive £130million release clause so any move, especially in the current environment, does seem highly unlikely.

Other supporters added:

United are hoping to add some reinforcements to midfield and the flanks this summer, but they hope to follow their new remit of signing young, talented and preferably British players.

Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish and Birmingham City prodigy Jude Bellingham are their priority targets.
