Manchester United fans have Dayot Upamecano transfer theory after RB Leipzig thrashing

Dayot Upamecano has been linked with a move to Manchester United but had an evening to forget against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men on Wednesday night.

The RB Leipzig defender found it tough going as United romped to a 5-0 victory over their German opponents in their second Champions League group fixture.

Marcus Rashford came off the bench to score a rapid hat-trick as the hosts backed up their impressive 2-1 win away to Paris Saint-Germain last week.

This latest display prompted some United fans to suggest that Rashford and co might have also helped the club's hopes of signing Upamecano, who is reported to have a £38million release clause in his current contract.

Here's how some supporters responded on Twitter...

@isholaolumide: With what Rashford did to him yesterday. Upamecano is now £15million not £40million anymore.

@DariaSatellite: Hey @MarcusRashford you might have just made it easier to buy Upamecano.

@TuftyMUFC: Rashford has done a better job of lowering Upamecano's transfer value than Woodward's first offer ever could.

@BaronDamaraji: Ole to Rashford: "Go lower that Upamecano's price for us..."

Rashford to Ole: "No problem, gaffer."

@alan_sithole: Did Rashford just destroy our target Upamecano before scoring that goal?

@Theblurrykid: Rashford just reduced Upamecano's price tag lmfao.

@_Coachy: Rashford literally lowered Upamecano's price last night.

@utdcynical: Nahh, Rashford is showing Upamecano serious levels LOOOL.

Meanwhile, former United star Rio Ferdinand told BT Sport: "This is about being ruthless but I thought Upamecano had a nightmare. This is the ruthlessness.

"There was no doubt in your mind, once he went through there, the confidence he’s showing at the moment and just his intent of hitting the back of the net and getting amongst the goals.

"Game over. There’s a venom when he hits it like that."

Former Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Upamecano has had a stinker this second half.

"I was reading this morning that United are going to be in for Upamecano very, very soon.

"But if you were actually scouting him on tonight’s performance, I don’t think you’d take him!

"I suppose if you were scouting Harry Maguire, for arguments sake, you would say he was top class. Funny old game!"
