Manchester United fans hail Marcus Rashford for off-the-ball moment vs Man City

Marcus Rashford reminded one Manchester United fan of Wayne Rooney during Sunday's Premier League victory over Manchester City, as supporters praised his defensive work-rate in the second half.

Rashford helped United beat Pep Guardiola's men 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium to end City's 21-match winning streak.

Bruno Fernandes put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side ahead with an early penalty after Anthony Martial was fouled by Gabriel Jesus inside the opening 30 seconds of the match. Luke Shaw doubled United's lead five minutes into the second half, set up by Rashford.

United's No.10 also earned plaudits for his work at the other end of the pitch, racing back to halt a City counter attack as they looked for a way back into the game.

Plenty of United supporters commented that this show of pace, energy and commitment to the cause was reminiscent of club legend Rooney in his prime.

"Reminds me on another certain number 10," said one fan on Twitter.

"Rashford is everywhere," tweeted another, while a third said: "That’s pace, power, commitment."

Unfortunately, Rashford injured his ankle in the second half and had to be replaced by Mason Greenwood in the 73rd minute.

"Not the way I wanted to see out the game but a big 3 points, well done lads," the England forward tweeted.

Asked about Rashford's injury after the game, manager Solskjaer said: "I don't know. It's something with his ankle. When he sprinted 70 yards to save a goal, it showed the attitude of the boy. I think he went over on his ankle but we need to do a scan, I've not had time to speak to the doctor yet."
