Manchester United fans hail James Garner after latest classy performance for Nottingham Forest

Manchester United and Nottingham Forest fans alike have been impressed by James Garner's continuing progress at first-team level.

Garner spent the first half of this season on loan at Watford, making 21 appearances in all competitions for the Hornets.

But after finding opportunities limited following the arrival of new boss Xisco Munoz, the young midfielder returned to Old Trafford in the January transfer window, before being swiftly sent back out on loan to Forest.

The 20-year-old will spend the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign at the City Ground and made his 10th appearance for the Reds - and ninth start - this weekend, in a 1-1 home draw with Reading.

So far, Garner's Forest record reads as follows: four wins, three draws and three defeats.

Chris Hughton's side are now 17th in the Championship table with 10 games left to play - nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Garner scored his first Forest goal in the 1-1 draw with arch rivals Derby County at Pride Park last month.

Against Reading, he completed 28 out of 30 passes with a 93.3% success rate, completing seven out of seven long balls over the 90 minutes.

"James Garner is absolutely on it... tackles and ball distribution is brilliant," said one United supporter on Twitter, while another posted: "He's legit good."

Meanwhile, a third fan tweeted: "Can’t wait to have him back to Man Utd."

Garner came through the youth ranks at United and has made seven senior appearances for the club to date, including two Premier League outings from the bench.

He has represented England at youth level, up to Under-20s so far in his career.

Forest are back in league action on Wednesday (March 17) when they entertain promotion-chasing Norwich City.
