Manchester United are very close to completing the signing of Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane, sending a wave of excitement through the fan base.
As revealed by the Manchester Evening News, United, who completed the £73million signing of Jadon Sancho last week, have agreed personal terms with the France international and are now close to reaching an agreement with Madrid for the deal to go through.
United are understood to have held 'positive' discussions' in the latest round of talks and the deal is now believed to be all but done, meaning the former Lens defender will soon become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's third signing of the summer.
It has been more than a month since United began working on a £50million deal for the Frenchman, meaning their relief to have got a deal almost done will be huge, as it will significantly bolster their defensive options ahead of the start of the new campaign.
Unsurprisingly, the news of United being on the cusp of landing Varane has gone down excellently with supporters, who have been waiting for good news to come through in regards to the club's pursuit of the defender.
United have been desperate to add a top-level central defender to the squad for quite some time and the impending arrival of Varane will most certainly achieve that aim.
