Manchester United fans go wild after Frenkie de Jong reacts to Casemiro transfer

Manchester United supporters are still dreaming of Frenkie de Jong moving to Old Trafford after the Barcelona midfielder 'liked' a video of Casemiro arriving at the stadium prior to Monday night's win over Liverpool.

United fans were delighted to see the unveiling of Casemiro ahead of the game, with some greeting him as he made his way into Old Trafford just hours after waving goodbye to Real Madrid in a farewell press conference.

Casemiro is Erik ten Hag’s fourth signing as Reds boss and fills the deep-lying void in the midfield. However, although the MEN understands a move for De Jong this summer is unlikely following the acquisition of Casemiro for up to £70mliion, it is not out of the question that they make further additions in midfield.

United appear to be primarily interested in making Ajax winger Antony their next signing, but Ten Hag remains a huge admirer of De Jong. And the 25-year-old liked a post from Instagram account '433' which showed Casemiro entering Old Trafford surrounded by swathes of fans.

Some supporters on Twitter dared to dream of a De Jong-Casemiro partnership in the midfield as a result.

De Jong has played in both of Barcelona’s La Liga matches so far, being handed his first start of the season in Sunday’s 4-1 win over Real Sociedad. He has underlined that his preference is to stay at the Nou Camp, although reportedly understands he could be offloaded due to the club’s dire financial situation.

A major stumbling block seems to be the sizeable wages he is owed by Barcelona following a Covid-19 pandemic deferment agreement.
