Manchester United fans fume as team make familiar mistake in Europa League final

Manchester United fans are furious that they have seen their team once again concede from a set-piece, this time in the Europa League final.

United are aiming to win a trophy for the first time since 2017, as well as the first under the stewardship of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as they take on Villarreal in Gdansk.

However, despite dominating in the early stages, things haven't gone to plan in the first-half as United have gone a goal behind to the Yellow Submarine - and yet again the goal has come from a set-piece.

It was midfielder Dani Parejo who whipped in a free-kick from over fifty yards out and no defender in red was able to get their head on the ball before it landed at the feet of Gerard Moreno to guide home.

It's a familiar story for United, who have conceded from corners and free-kicks time and time again this season after failing to improve their defending at dead ball situations.

With Harry Maguire only able to make the bench for the final as he continues to recover from an ankle ligament injury, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof didn't cover themselves in glory for the opening goal and United are now staring down the barrel of a heartbreaking defeat.

Unsurprisingly, United fans are apoplectic that the team haven't even been able to defend a set-piece in an important final.

Ahead of the match, Solskjaer offered an update on Maguire's condition.

“He’s not ready, he’s not trained, but we have him on the bench and if there’s an emergency he will want to come on, he’s a leader in the dressing room, a player everyone respects and we need around the place," he told MUTV.
