Since their takeover in 2006, Manchester United fans have had a tumultuous relationship with their owners the Glazer family. Things came to a head last season when the fans protested at Old Trafford before the team's fixture against Liverpool in the Premier League.
This was due to a build-up of reasons, but one major factor was the belief that the owners cared more about their NFL franchise the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who had just won their first Superbowl in 18 years a few months prior, than they did about United.
This was mainly due to the board's reluctance to sanction the transfer fee for Jadon Sancho despite only being £15 million away from Borussia Dortmunds valuation, but then in the same week giving out bumper contracts to NFL veterans Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski to get them to sign for their Florida outlet.
The fans weren't happy, so in response, the Glazer family at a fan forum in June stated that they would listen to fans more and work together with representatives from the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) in order to better gauge the fan's opinions and use it to guide their decision making.
This has led to investment in the stadium, the reduction of the cost of alcohol at the ground, and a number of other proposed changes which are yet to go through but are reportedly in the works.
Fast forward to today though, and the fans are calling out for one thing and one thing only, and that is for the board to make the right decision and part ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager after an embarrassing 5-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.
And where are the Glazer family? Well according to the India Times, they are currently in Dubai bidding to own one of the two new Indian Premier League cricket teams, instead of putting out the raging fire that is currently burning in Manchester.
While speaking about the loss to Liverpool, Gary Neville said on Sky Sports that; "There will be a massive outcry from fans and media from everybody that he should be sacked and I can understand why after that game. It takes some recovery. I lost 7-0 in Barcelona once and I knew I was done.
"I’d like to hear from the board to communicate with the fans to say if they are going to back the manager over the next 6 months. The media have asked questions and the feeling is they believe in the project. Ole believes he’s close, I remain to be convinced."
Communication has always been the crux of the problem between the fanbase and the Glazer family, yes there are other things that they have done throughout their tenure which have angered fans, but the belief that the fan voice feels drowned out and ignored has fueled much of the fire.
Now the club may not be at the bottom of the priority list of the Glazers, but when you don't address what is a major issue for the fanbase about Solskjaer and instead go away on what albeit will be a preplanned trip to buy another sporting venture, it is not the best look.
Now on what is probably the most important day in the last three years, United fans don't want to feel second or worse third-best in the interests of their owners. They will want the club to clarify their position either way so that they can draw their own opinions and not go forward into this hard run of games in the dark about the team's immediate future.
