As Manchester United slipped to a second 2-1 defeat at Wolves in a fortnight, Lionel Messi was rescuing Barcelona with another free-kick masterclass.
With Barca level at 2-2 with Villarreal, Messi was introduced on the hour mark but saw his side fall 4-2 behind going into the 90th minute.
Then, Messi stepped up to score a sublime free kick from the edge of the area, before Luis Suarez scored a dramatic equaliser.
The free kick came after a panenka-style goal from a similar position last week, taking his tally to nine goals in the last four games for Barcelona.
The Catalan giants moved eight points clear in La Liga with the point, and they face second-placed Atletico Madrid this weekend before travelling to Manchester next week.
And United fans - fresh from seeing their side produce a nervous defensive display at Wolves - were fearing the worst heading into the Champions League clash.
