Manchester United fans despair as Erling Haaland to Man City confirmed

Manchester City have announced a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Erling Haaland ahead of the summer transfer window. This is a huge blow for many Manchester United fans who hoped the Norwegian striker would join the club in the past.

United wanted to sign Haaland while he was at RB Salzburg and they hoped that the striker's history with then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would convince him to come to Old Trafford. However, United's reluctance to add a release clause to the 21-year-old striker's contract meant that he instead moved to the German club.

That release clause is what United's noisy neighbours have now activated to sign Haaland, with the striker moving to Manchester for a relative steal of £51million. And with his signing, many Premier League fans are already writing off next season's title race.

Haaland has scored 85 goals in 88 games for Dortmund and is joining a City team who have scored 89 goals this season already without a clearly defined number nine. Some United fans hoped that the club would have been able to convince Haaland to come to Old Trafford this summer, especially with Erik ten Hag at the helm. But some reports have stated that the Norwegian striker was only willing to join a club that could convince him about their 'sporting project'.

Given United's struggles this season especially scoring goals and with their need for a striker in the summer market to operate under Ten Hag, the fans are losing their mind on social media. This is a selection of replies from Twitter:
