Manchester United fans deliver clear verdict after Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo rumours

Manchester United fans have urged the club not to pursue a swap deal with Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba after reports from Italy.

The Frenchman has one year on his current United contract and is yet to sign fresh terms with the club, which has seen him linked with several clubs over a summer exit.

The resurfacing of these reports from Italy have suggested that Ronaldo could make an emotional return to Old Trafford to finance a move for Pogba, who left Turin to join Manchester United in 2016.

MEN Sport understands that Erling Haaland has been sounded out as the club's long-term replacement for Romelu Lukaku, which would make any deal for Ronaldo unlikely.

However, supporters have been defiant in their response to the rumours, insisting that swapping one of their best players for an ageing Ronaldo, despite the emotional connection, would be bad business for the club.

Pogba has been in great form for United since returning from injury against AC Milan last month.

The 28-year-old made a goal-scoring return at the San Siro and has since registered two assists in eight appearances and produced a Man-of-the-Match display against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

Speaking about Pogba's future at the start of April, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted that he's made it clear he would like the midfielder to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

"When he’s been at the club Paul has always wanted what is best for Man United, he’s been such an important part of the squad on and off the pitch," the United boss said.

"Paul is a player we want to see at Man United and play well. Just to have him back fit for the last two months, he’s going to be important to us, we know he can be the difference between many, many points or going through in Europe like we did against Milan.

"The focus is now on finishing the season strongly, [but] Paul knows what my thoughts are."
