Manchester United fans criticise Harry Maguire tweet after AZ Alkmaar draw

Harry Maguire deleted a tweet he posted after Manchester United's draw with AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night after a backlash from supporters.

"A point away from home. Thanks for the support. See you Sunday," Maguire wrote shortly after the final whistle in The Hague.

However, his replies were quickly filled with criticism from fans, with one writing: "Love you mate, but please don't pretend that was acceptable.

Another wrote: "Get back to Hull City with this mentality pal."

Maguire was an unused substitute as United were held to a 0-0 draw at the Kyocera Stadium.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bemoaned the officiating in the match after Marcus Rashford was denied a second-half penalty.

"Of course, it should've been a win," Solskjaer said. "I'm fed up of talking about penalties we should have had, Arsenal on Monday and now. That's a penalty 101 times out of 100, you cannot get that decision wrong in football.

"The linesman today can look straight at the tackle on Marcus and he just wipes his foot off the floor, so that's a bad decision. Unfortunately for us, we didn't get it so there's no point me complaining, which I don't like doing.

"But there will come a point where these decisions will turn our way. That's my always positive belief."
