Manchester United fans change opinion on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Everton win

Manchester United fans changed their mind on whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should continue as the club's manager following Saturday's win against Everton.

Back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir had put Solskjaer under immense pressure prior to the trip to Goodison Park.

MEN Sport understand former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been approached with a view to taking charge if results did not improve.

The United boss refused to comment on his future prior to the game against Everton and his squad responded with a massive performance on Merseyside, coming from behind to win 3-1 with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani.

Prior to the win MEN Sport launched a survey - answered by more than 18,000 fans in total - which asked United supporters whether the club should move on from Solskjaer and 60 per cent of respondents felt a change in manager was needed.

However, following the win at Goodison, that percentage changed drastically with 68 per cent of respondents wanting Solskjaer to remain in charge.

Pochettino has been out of work since his dismissal from Tottenham and MEN Sport also asked fans whether the Argentine would be the best replacement for Solskjaer if United did opt for a managerial change.

A resounding 86 per cent of respondents backed Pochettino's appointment but after the Everton win, the percentage dipped to just 57 per cent.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand disclosed before the game that he had heard United chiefs are still backing Solskjaer despite recent results.

He told BT Sport: "The news coming out of the club, to my ears, is that they’re not searching for a replacement, they’re very much behind Ole, they’ve invested in terms of recruitment for him and they’re hopefully going to let him see that out.

"But if results do continue in this vein, then they’ll have to reassess that."
